Mick Walls Captures the Life of Prince, Enigmatic US Music Legend

At Prince's induction into the Hall of Fame, Alicia Keys described his music as "an internal rollercoaster that takes each individual on their own separate legendary ride". What emerges most strongly from this portrait – apart from Mick Wall's unbounded admiration for the musician – is the chameleon quality of both the man and his music. For all his sexual provocations, Prince was an archetypal American dreamer and self-made man committed to freedom with a capital F; a fan of Ronald Reagan who loved God above all. Intensely competitive, Prince's greatest rivalry was with Michael Jackson. While Jackson'sThriller was the biggest seller of all time, Prince got the critical plaudits and kept taking the musical risks, says Wall. Rushed out our months after Prince's death, Prince is a journalistic overview and personal lament for the enigmatic musician.
